Zen Master Caterpillar

I wanted to share this because it is just the coolest thing. It's an amazing leaf-like chrysalis that's formed on our cassia. I saw the caterpillar before in became enclosed, but missed taking a before pic.

Very cool. What part of the world is this?

Justin, I will have to ask him!

Yes, I am in Houston, Texas. The tree the chrysalis is on is a cassia. It blooms amazing yellow flowers in the fall and winter here, and every evening it closes its oval leaves.

Today I witnessed a lovely male cardinal swoop into the cassia and spirit away this chrysalis for his lunch! I did manage to spy a second withered, frail, and newly evacuated chrysalis nearby that I had failed to notice before- Ah, missed! The other butterflies seem to be enjoying the garden's many spring blossoms and the fruit we are leaving out for them...
